This page provides details on accessing the WiFi network at the University of Manchester, during the IWMW 2005 event.
You will be given a username and password when you register. This can be used to access the local network. It can be used in PC cluster areas. If you have brought your own networked PC, you should use this username and password in order to access the local network. A WiFi network will be available in the conference venue. In addition access will be available from the conference bedrooms (possibly WiFi or possibly by cable (details to be confirmed shortly).
In order to access networked resources you should first connect to the University's WiFi network. Note that the address of this network is likely to be University) (details to be confirmed shortly) Please ensure that you connect to this network.
You should then launch a Web browser. You should automatically be redirected to a aunthentication page. Please enter your username and password and then read and confirm that you will adide by the AUP.
Please note that the WiFi network is believed to provide networked access only to applications which make use of port 80. This means use of Web browsers (although the Skype VoIP service also works). Applications such as instant messaging will probably not work (although the IWMW organisers are hoping to provide instant messaging facilities thorugh a Web-based interface).
Please note that further information on the WiFi network is available from the Manchester Computing Web site.
Images of the interface for authentication use of the network are given below.
